What Causes Tightness In Foot?

I was laying in bed reading the news in my phone when my right foot suddenly tensed up like it needed to pop. I pointed and flexed my foot and it just got tighter. I tried stretching it and walking up and down the hallway but when I put weight on it I felt a lot of painful pressure. Also, rotating it to the right is extremely painful. I have no prior injuries so what could cause this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are in. It seems that you experienced muscle contraction.

Possible causes include:
- recent increased/intense physical activity
- lack in magnesium levels
- cold weather

If you did not have any recent intense physical activity, then, I advise to measure the levels of electrolytes in your blood to check for deficiency.

Meanwhile, I advise to eat healthy (more fresh fruits, fish, etc.) and use OTC anti-inflammatory drugs.

All the best!
