What Causes Tightness In The Lungs After A Long Run?

since I quit smoking 2 years ago I started jogging occasionally and I ve recently been training more intensely to do a half marathon. Sometimes when I do long runs (say more than 12km) I experience tightness in my lungs the next day especially upon deep inhalation. When I try to take a big deep breath I feel like coughing.

You have not mentioned your age and the duratiin for which you have smoked..
However if you are planninh to run a half marathon it would be better to get yourself checked by doing a pulmonary function test ..
It will help to see if you have any features of hyperreactiv airway or any signs of asthma which is getting aggravated with exertion..
