What Causes Tightness In The Throat While On Buspar And Baclofen?

Hi I have had a tight throat for weeks now. Almost feels like I am going to choke or someone is strangling me, thick saliva in back of throat (which is clear). My Dr says it is anxiety related which when I take my Ativan it doesn t seem to help much. I am on .5 Ativan BID, 7.5 buspar TID and now have baclofen 10 mg PRN which doesn t seem to help either. Tonight my throat (lower right) has a sharp pain when I breathe deep which seems to go to the back of my right eye. Is this all anxiety related? I was also short of breath all day yesterday and woke up gasping for air.

Hi,

Yes, could be a coincidence, more likely there is an inflammation from one of the drugs. Taking one at a time and not taking the other is a general way to sort out drug allergy but there are some risks involved.

Cannot say in your particular case, but some drug allergies can cause such severe reactions that the person cannot breathe. In general, this would be immediately after taking the medicine and lesser responses might or might not get worse with repeated application. Generally, trying one at a time in a more controlled setting like at least a hospital waiting room would be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
