What Causes Tongue Lesions?

I have a lesion on the side of my tongue -not under the tongue but just at the side-I think it was caused from

biteing my tongue so often when I chew,Especially when I chew gum.It has recently growm some, and looks

like it has fluid in it. Could my bite be off a bit? I am at senior age. Please help if you can. Mrs.Vaughn

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a fluid filled lesion or lump at the side of tongue can be a HEMATOMA formed due to biting of tongue and is formed due to trauma to a small blood vessel leading to spillage of blood into the soft tissues..

Aa the trauma is occurring recurrently there is increased size of the lump..

The best way to prevent it is to prevent tongue bite..
Chew slowly and avoid excessive chewing the chewing gum.

Do alternate warm and cold compresses over the lesion for faster resolution..

Hope this information helps..
