Hello, Indeed, there are sexually transmitted disease (STD) that can infect the throat; chlamydia and gonorrhea can cause throat infections, and herpes can rarely also infect the throat. However, the symptoms of these infections are usually extremely severe, with very high fevers and inability to swallow. White spots on your tonsils are one of the indications of tonsillitis, which can be caused by non-sexually transmitted bacteria or a viral illness. The most common cause of tonsillitis is strep throat, which can be treated easily with antibiotics. Your general physician will be able to take cultures of your throat for the sexually-transmitted infections as well as strep and if indicated prescribe an antibiotic for treatment.
