What Causes Two Painful Spots At The Back Of My Head?
I have two tender spots in the back of my head. I Noticed them A Couple of days ago when I went to lay down. I put pressure on it and got an intense headache on that side of my head (the left side). Then about an hour later noticed a smaller spot on the right side of my head and made an effort not to put pressure on that side but I poked it a couple times and each time It felt like I was getting quick pain shooting to my temple. what does this sound like, and is it dangerous?
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic.
This seems most likely to be a case of boils/furuncles, which is bacterial infection of the skin and soft tissue. If I was the treating doctor I would have asked you to take a week long course of an oral antibiotic. My choice of an oral antibiotic would have been either flucloxacillin or cepahlexin. Oral antibiotics are prescription drugs and therefore you must contact you primary care physician Topically you may use an OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin ointment, twice daily. An OTC pain killer e.g ibuprofen, twice daily would provide you symptomatic relief from pain. Avoid using hair oil and shampoo daily
