I might have an underachieve thyroid my doctor says after blood lab results. They said I need to come back in 2 months to do blood labs again to make sure it is underactive, and then will go from there prescribing a medication, etc. I have a couple questions in the meantime...I drink an organic soy milk coffee drink once a day in the afternoon, and have been doing that for probably the last 10 years. That is the only soy I consumein my diet. Researching online the last few days, I am seeing that a lot of research out there says to avoid soy in general and especially if thyroid issues. What are your opinions? Thanks. Molly
Hello, Thank you for asking on HCM! I carefully read your concern and would like to inform you further regarding to primary hypothyroidism. The most common cause of primary hypothyroidism especially at females is Hashimoto thyroiditis, an autoimmune pathology that is not related to the diet. The hormonal level is very important to make the diagnosis and once it is confirmed that the thyroid is underactive the treatment is started. The autoimmune thyroiditis is genetically transmitted in general and is not caused by soy milk coffe. Hope the information is helpful.
