Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Unexplained Weight Gain And Loss Of Pubic Hair?
I am a 46 year old mother of 2 (12yo & 15yo) I had a hysterectomy during the birth of my 12 year who was 10 weeks early due o placenta acreta. I bled heavily losing 2.5 liters of blood and was in icu for 2 days. Since then I have coninued to lactate for the past 12 years (only slightly in my left breast) and have lost most of my pubic hair with unexplained weight gain that does not respond to diet and excercise. I am very active _ Basketbal 2 nights a weeks and briskly walk 8kms per day only to keep on gaining weight. I am now at 83kg 165cm tall - nothing works
I share your concerns. I would like to tell you that there are several possibility in your case like hypothyroidism, menopause and reduced pituitary functioning. If I were your treating physician I would have done a thyroid profile in beginning as it is most likely cause. One thing which may go against hypothyroidism is that you are very active, hypothyroidism produces laziness. But still hypothyroidism is possible as it is much common than hypopituitarism.
I would like to advise you to visit endocrinologist in your area and explain him all symptoms in detail so he/she can order the required investigations and treatment.
I hope i have clarified your concerns. Do write for follow up queries. I wish you good health. Please rate my reply. Thank you.
