Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my father is 81 years old and he had had an upset stomach we are thinking something we both ate. he feels weak when he gets up, he has been eating well for a couple of days but today, he had breakfast and has not eaten anymore. What could be the cause for his weakness?
Upset stomach at this age could have been due to indigestion, intolerance, viral gastritis, hyper-acidity and so on. The cause can be found by observation, asking specific questions to your father related to the points just discussed above.
Watch for any nausea, vomiting, fever, stool color, consistency and so on. Watch for any distension of abdomen, eructation and so on. This may probably pass out.
All these things in turn can cause the weakness he has. Give plenty of oral fluids at least. If the condition does not improve, take him to the doctor for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations to get a probable cause and get treated accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant
