Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It looks like you are suffering
interstitial cystitis, a condition when bladder become inflamed and irritated.
The diagnosis of IC is made by ruling out other conditions that cause similar symptoms, such as
urinary tract infections, vaginal infections, kidney stones, and cancer.
You are right that say coffee makes it becauses some food like tomatoes, citrus fruits, coffee, chocolate, or alcohol, may worsen symptoms of IC for some people. To identify which foods, if any, irritate your bladder, keep a diary of what you eat during the day.
Treatement is done by Pentosan polysulfate sodium (Elmiron) that works for interstitial cystitis. But, this medication doesn't work for everyone, and it can take several months to take effect. Other medications used to treat IC include the antihistamine
hydroxyzine (Vistaril, Atarax), and the
tricyclic antidepressant amitriptyline (Elavil). Sometimes, seizure medicines such as gabapentin, (Neurontin) and topiramate (Topamax) are used.
