General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. The cause of incontinence in elderly male can be- -Stress : occurs there is damage to nerves supplying urinary sphincter / weak bladder muscles due to previous infection, stones in bladder... making holding of urine in bladder difficult - Urge - uncontrollable urge to urinate when bladder muscles are damaged -Overflow of urine- happens when something obstructs ( like enlarged prostate )to block urethra-- the bladder is overfilled & flows out. * To get the things normal he needs to be examined in detail to find the cause & have cause specific treatment ( medicines, catheterization, surgery ) ,along with some life style changes like-changes in your diet ( stop taking coffee, alcohol, smoking. take healthy food with enough fibers & water to prevent constipation ), exercises & behavioral strategy. Thanks.
