What Causes Uterine Contractions During Pregnancy?
I'm 39 weeks pregnant and this pregnancy has been so rough for me these past few days i can't keep anything down, i've been to the hospital several times with regular contractions but my doctor sent me home on lortab since i was only dialated to one. my nurse at the hospital told me i have the cervix of a woman who has had a child because she checked me once and told me i was 2 almost 3 cm dialated then she she said i was 1 a few seconds later and that when she pushes on the head of the baby it goes up. my nerves are shot, i can't keep food down, and im losing sleep because i hurt so bad. Can i ask to be induced?
Thank you for the question and for visiting this site.
Typically we try to avoid inductions that lack an indication because this increases your risk of a C-section. That being said, women who are over 39 weeks AND who have a favorable cervix for inducing probably do not have much of an increase in this risk. If you are only 1cm, then you are not favorable for inducing. If you are 3cm and there is significant thinning of the cervix, then you are probably favorable. We have a scoring system called a Bishop's Score to determine the favorability of the cervix.
Talk to your doctor and see what there attitude is about this situation. The first indication for delivery in an otherwise low risk pregnancy is reaching 41 weeks. Perhaps they would be amenable to delivery sooner.
I hope that this helps and good luck!
