What Causes Vaginal And Pelvic Cramps In A 48-year-old Woman?

HI, I am having painful vaginal/pelvic cramps during the last 8-12 hours. I am 48 and my last period was December 10th, 2017. 1000 mgs of ibuprofen seemed to help, though I don t want to take that dosage for a prolonged amount of time, of course. I have an appointment with my GYN doctor in the next two weeks. Haven t had this type of pain in over 20 years, since my last childbirth. Am thinking I should be okay for the time being, but would like some advice. (I work in an ER in a non-patient care role, BTW, so have ready access to care should I need it). Thank you!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pelvic cramps and pain can be due to pelvic infection, ovarian cyst, constipation, bowel infection, or urinary tract stone. I will suggest you to get an ultrasound done to confirm the diagnosis and get further treatment accordingly.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
