What Causes Vaginal Itching After Having Unprotected Sex?
I m 18 and I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend multiple times. I am on birth control. I recently got over a UTI and yeast infection but now after a few weeks the itching has come back. Both of us have been tested for STIs and both came back negative. Do you know what could possibly be causing this and what I do to stop it?
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
The return of itching is most likely due to a recurrence of yeast infection. One possible factor for recurrence could be birth control pills. Birth control pills may lead to women developing yeast infections because they increase estrogen levels in a woman’s body. If I was the treating doctor I would have advised you to use an OTC topical antifungal e.g clotrimazolevaginal tablets for 7 days. A single dose of an oral antifungal e.g fluconazole is also curative. It is advisable to check from your partner for any redness, genital itching and therefore the partner also need to be simultaneously treated to prevent a recurrence. Practice abstinence from sex for a week till the condition resolves fully.
