What Causes Vaginal Itching?

Hi I am 43 and have been having vaginal itching in the top outer part of my vagina. I have never had this before. I started about a month ago. I have treated for a yeast infection and I have also bought some cream for itching that seems to help, but it comes back. It does not itch all the time, just sometimes. Any suggestions?
