What Causes Vertigo And Blackouts?

Hi, in the past month I have had unusual vertigo/fainting like episodes. The first was early January. I was sick and in the shower when I got very lightheaded, could not hold my body up, and slumped to the floor. My vision also started going dark. After, I was very shaky, leading me to think I had low blood sugar (hypoglycemia runs in the family). This weekend, I got sick again. Saturday, I was in the shower again, blew my nose, and again could not hold my body up and slumped over. This time though, the room was literally spinning. I tried to focus on one object, but my vision kept spinning. This lasted 5 minutes before it slowly went away. Today, I showered again, blew my nose, and the room slightly spun and I lost my balance, but it wasn t as severe as Saturday. Is this normal while sick? Like is it just part of being in a warm shower or being sick? Or is this something more unusual that I should have a doctor check? Background info: I am 22 year old woman. I easily get sick since I work in childcare. Have undiagnosed hypoglycemia that I was told runs in the family.

Hello,

Mainly refractive error and middle ear conduction problem refraction should be done, and if error detected, it should be corrected. ENT doctor may be asked to examine the middle ear, conduction test should be done, and if there is benefit from hearing aid, it can be taken. It can be transient ischemia. Fasting and pp should be done, glyco lated hemoglobin can be tested. Postural hypotension can be excluded.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar Dash
