im asking this for my father, he is 85 years old seemed to be in ok health up until last year. he has slowed down a lot. now he keeps loosing his balance and is dizzy, he fell 5 times last week. but last night he told me he had a shooting pain in his neck that went up into his head. he has never had a headache in his life. today he is stating that from that episode last night his eye is hurting today. he had a ct of the head last week and an ekg and the hospital stated they did not find anything. What could this possibly be
Two blood vessels supplying the base of the brain and the organs of balance pass through the neck vertebral bones. If he has wear and tear of these bones, a condition called cervical spondylosis, the blood flow through these blood vessels can be compromised leading to giddiness.
The spondylosis can also lead to intervertebral discs prolapse. The prolapsed discs can pinch the nerves and produce pain in the areas supplied by them. The investigation to locate the site of the problems is MRI of the cervical spine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Noble Zachariah
