Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Vomiting and diarrhea for 5 days is usually due to gastroenteritis, particularly when associated with blood in stool indicating colitis too. I would advise him the following in such a situation: Get the stool and blood tests done to see for infection. IF the infection is present a course of prescription based antibiotic, metronidazole, probiotic can give him the cure. Also needed is a PPI like Omeprazole, Domperidone and antacid as the vomiting has to stop for making oral intake of fluids, food and medicines possible. If the vomiting does no0t stop, he may need an admission to the hospital for intravenous antibiotics, fluids and electrolytes to control the infection, maintain hydration and proper electrolyte balance. Once the vomiting stops, oral intake can increase and oral medications started. Also needed will be probiotics, multivitamins, soft bland diet and boiled and cooled water.
