What Causes Vomiting, Diarrhea, Distended Stomach And Flatulence?

my 3 yr old son had a virus wher he vomited and had diarhea for a few days. nothing severe but dragging out where he would be fine for long periods of time in between bouts. The whole family had the stomach issues at some point over the last 10 days. He now has a distended belly which concerns me because he is skinny little guy normally. AIt sounds like a lot of gas inside when u tap it. Should i be concerned?

Pediatrician, Neonatology 's  Response
Hello,

As you mentioned other family members also have abdomen issues so it could be food poisoning.

It requires an antibiotic course, probiotics, antiemetic, ORS to maintain hydration.

If not controlled with oral medications then hospitalization may be required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Sachin Kumar Agarwal, Pediatrician, Neonatology
