Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had a call rom a friend who said her grandmother has been waking up in the middle of the night with a bad taste in her mouth and throwing up or feeling like throwing up. I told her they should call the doctor's office but was wondering if this may be a more urgent problem.
I am sorry to hear that your friend is having night time nausea and vomiting. I do agree that seeing a doctor would be a good idea. From your description I do not think this is an urgent problem. From your description it sounds like she may have reflux esophagitis when she lays down at night. By being horizontal the stomach acids can migrate into her esophagus and cause burning, bad taste in her mouth and then vomiting. While she is waiting to see her doctor a simple elevating of the head of her bed may reduce her symptoms.
Hope this answers your question. If you have any inquiries please contact us so we can help.
