I was drinking on the weekend and at the end of the night I vomited. During the day I didnt have a great deal to eat and I only had sandwiches for dinner. Some of the vomit was brown in colour which I am a little worried about because I have read that this may be a sign of blood in the vomit. Does this always mean there is blood in the vomit or can it be something else such as bile. I feel completely fine now and have know other side effects. Just on the night I threw up.
several different things. First, might not have been the alcohol. Drinks have a lot of other things in them that some people find a trigger (egg, milk, drugs, etc.). Then, alcohol breaks down to acetaldehyde. This causes vomiting. Generally not enough builds up to trigger vomiting. The amount and the rapidity and whether there is also food in the stomach changes how much acetaldehyde builds up. There is a drug (antabuse) which stops the breakdown of acetaldehyde to make people stop alcohol. Several other medications (flagyl) have a build up of acetaldehyde with taking alcohol as an unintended side effect. Then, alcohol just stimulates the digestion. It increases stomach acid and secretion and motility. It lowers the tension at the top of the stomach that prevents food from coming back up. It predisposes to vomiting a bit.
