Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Vomiting On Taking Prozac And Birth Control Pills Together?
I have been taking prozac for over 6 years now and tried starting birth control pills (alesse low dosage) but it made me throw up! (This was not good as I am emetophobic) I stopped taking them and recently tried taking them again, but this time without the prozac. Everything was fine. Did not experience many side effects or anything. The next night I decided to try taking my prozac with the birth control again and I threw up. The common denominator here is taking the prozac with the birth control in the same day. Is it possible that these two are having a bad interaction?
Either drug alone can cause the side effect of nausea and vomiting. In your case, it appears the combination of both pushed you over the edge for side effects, so essentially the 2 are having a bad interaction. Were you taking them at the same time? If so, you might try taking one in the morning and one in the evening to see if that reduces the interaction. Taking the Prozac with food may also help. Hope this answers your question.
