I have a warm, red rash that extends up my arm on the skin covering the vein that recently had an IV. Several medications, IV bags, and a contrast agent for a CT scan were injected into this IV about 6 days ago. I noticed this rash 1-2 days ago.65 Could this be a delayed allergic reaction or an infection? What do you suggest? Thanks. YYYY@YYYY .
The most probable diagnosis of the condition based on the description of the lesions is contact dermatitis to cellophane tape at IV site. Topical mild steroid cream like mometasone can be applied over the affected area. Oral antihistamines like fexofenadine may also be used after consulting your dermatologist.
