What Causes Water Around Lungs Of Fetus?

my wife did an echo for her baby. the doctor found out that the baby has some water around the lungs. she started her 8th month from 6 days. nobody was able to give us a clear answer about the reason. they want to start doing some tests and also to do her an amnio synthesis.

did anybody encounter such a case before and is it dangerous?

hope i can find an answer here.

thanks in advance.

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question. Fluid around the fetal lung means pleural effusion. Pleural effusion in foetus can be due to chromosomal anomaly, cardiac anomaly, lung anomaly or heart failure due to any cause.
I would suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist so that all the relevant investigations including amniocentesis can be done.Amniocentesis will help to get fetal karyotype and rule out fetal anomaly.
If everything comes normal, then proper investigations of the baby should be done after delivery.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
