What Causes Watery Eyes?

Several years ago, I noticed that my eyes started "tearing-up" at inappropriate times...for something as simple as someone paying me a compliment. (My emotional response would be similar to that expected during a funeral or other emotional episode.) I'm 70 now, in good health, and it probably started in my 50's. It's been with me since then, but I don't recall ANY specific incident or trigger that might have caused it. I DO recall my dad having a similar problem - that probably started when he was around the same age. It's REALLY annoying & embarrassing. Ideas?

it is epephora. may be due to blockage of punctum and blocking nasolacrimal duct. so punctum dialatation and syringing can be done and to be repeated so-that duct is open up and saline water goes to throat. after repeatation the epiphora may reduce.
