What Causes Weakness While Taking Lantus For Diabetes?
I am diabetic, take 75 units each meal and 75 units Lantus morning & night, I now weight 355lbs, and smoke. I started Chantix 2 months ago stopped taking after 1 month. Still smoking ;-( I have notice significant change in energy levels, I can not take the heat and after few minutes of working in heat I am sweating profusely. I have to go inside and rest 15 to 20 min. also out of breath. I am 52 years old
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Lantus (insulin glargine) is a long-acting basal insulin analogue, given once daily to help control the blood sugar level of those with diabetes. It has a long duration of action of 18 to 26 hours, with a "peakless" profile . However you are taking inj Lantus twice a day 75 units each time. Weakness in your case is most likely due to intermittent low blood sugar with sweating (effect of hypoglycaemia-sympatho-mimetic response). You need to undergo blood sugar profile and also random blood sugar check during the episode of sweating. Iit is not due to nicotine withdrawal, since you are still smoking.
