What Causes Weight Gain And Severe Hair Loss During Menopause?
I am 51 yrs old and I constantly have gas. I am going through menopause. I have gained weight and no matter what I try, I haven t been able to lose weight. I have a bald patch in the center of my head. Is there something I should be looking into when going to the doctor?
All your symptoms you are facing are due to hormonal changes during menopause phase you are going through.
Gaining weight is due to lack of estrogen which makes starches and blood sugar use less effectively, causing increase in fat deposits. On the other hand, water retention is also caused by the same hormonal factors.
With regards to the bald patch you have in the center of your head, it should be evaluated first to rule out local problems (like tinea) through microscopical examination of KOH 10% hair and skin scraping preparation.
Discuss this further with dermatologist. All the best.
