What Causes Weight Gain In A Type1 Diabetic When On Thyroid Medication?
hi, I am 18 years old female, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and thyroid. I am taking thyronorm 50 mcg, but I have put on 20 kgs of weight in a period of 4 months and still putting on...is it due to the medicines, can I stop taking them now as my thyroid level is normal? Please help I want to lose weight. ...
Weight gain can occur with low levels of thyroid hormone. If you discontinue the thyroid replacement hormone, then the weight would increase further.
You may want to have thyroid function tests done to ensure that you are receiving enough of the hormone, inadequate levels may be causing the weight increase.
If this is not the case, then you may want to consult a dietician for advice on how best to alter your diet to lose weight.
It would be best to consult your doctor before changing any medications.
I hope this helps
