What Causes Weight Loss And Profuse Sweating In Elderly?
my 82 year old mother wakes up soak and wet sweated sometimes a couple times a night. This has been going on for the past 3 or 4 months. She has also lost weight...everytime she goes to the Dr. she has lost weight. She went from 116 to 114 to 111. This is just recently. She used to be around 130 before she got sick last year. She lost weight through that but lately she has been loosing it everytime she gets on the scale.
dear i can understand your concerns.there are many causes of sweats or more specifically night sweats along with weight loss in an elderly female.this may be because of hyperthyroidism or this may be feature of something more serious such as lymphoma or leukemias. to confirm the diagnosis complete history and physical examination is required.certain chronic infections can also cause this such as tuberculosis , certain drugs such as antidepressants can cause night sweats.so in my opinion you should discus this with your physician he will suggest you what workup is required to reach correct diagnosis.hope this will help.
