Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I noticed numerous welts on the legs of my 12 month son. It appears as though he got pinched by toys. They are slightly raised appearing to be white/ skin color. They will appear then quickly disappear. I thought maybe he was having an allergic reaction to something he had eaten, but these episodes are happening at anytime in the day. Any ideas on what it could be?
HI...this doesn't look like food allergy. This looks like urticaria. By what you quote it should be an urticarial or a simple skin allergy. You can use Hydroxyzine at 1-2mg/kg/dose every 6th to 8th hourly for 7-10 days. Most important thing to be remembered is that it has a propensity to recur (called as second crop) within 10-14 days. If this happens, you can start using the same medicine but I suggest you get the kid evaluated with your paediatrician. Regards - Dr. Sumanth
