Hello.

Good morning and thank you for asking at HCM.

For your 1st question, common causes of wheezing at your son's age are - viral infections, allergic respiratory disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

To identify the exact cause of his 2 episodes, it is important to review his symptoms patterns, investigations etc in detail.

However, as viral infections and allergies are more common, I would think of them first. Avoidance of smoke, dusts and air-pollutants is important for prevention of wheezing episodes. A nutritive diet rich in micronutrients and adequate hemoglobin levels are equally important to maintain good immunity against infections.

If he is having allergies, allergy testing and avoidance of allergy causing foods/substances can be done to prevent attacks.

If he has symptoms like frequent vomiting, regurgitation, etc, I would think of gastroesophageal reflux disease and would suggest him antacids for 6-8 weeks and avoidance of hot, spicy meals.

As you have asked for food advice, you can give most of the foods those he is allergic to. If he has reflux disease, please avoid hot, spicy foods and caffeinated beverages.

For better immunity, I would advice a diet plan with equal emphasis on whole grains, nuts & legumes, green leafy vegetables and fruits with some amount of dairy. This ensures him adequate vitamins and minerals to maintain his immunity. Frequent consumption of cold drinks, caffeinated beverages, junk foods, excessively fried foods, etc is not advisable.

Hope this will be helpful to you.

Wish your son the best of the health.

Regards.
