I've been experiencing white fluid coming from my vagina like water since I was 15. I've been to doctors many times and they give me antibiotics but I still experience it. Most of the time my underwear and even my clothes get wet from this. I have to be wearing panty shields constantly. Could you help me with my issue please?
I am Dr Nilajkumar [consultant Ob Gy] and will be answering your queries.
The commonest cause of discharge from vagina is normal cervical secretions that become thin and watery during ovulation and thick and viscid after ovulation. You seem to be experiencing excessive discharge. If this has been going on a a long time then some pathology needs to be ruled out.
If you have never been sexually active it is difficult to look for local causes [as the hymen is intact] like cervical polyps and erosions that commonly cause such symptoms. I suggest that you see a senior gynecologist and discuss this issue. It is not advisable to take antibiotics indiscriminately as it only increases resistance and does not help. You may need an examination under anesthesia to look for a local cause and also a cervical pap smear and swabs for diagnosis of infection. Further treatment will then depend upon the cause.
Do not worry as this can be treated. Thanks and regards. Dr Nilajkumar Bagde
