Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my stool has suddenly become a white/pale color in the last couple of days. I was wondering if this coloration can be attributed to a soup that I have been eating over the last couple of days (cream of potato) or if I should go see a doctor as I realize that white stool can be an indicator to a number of potentially bad illnesses.
White stool is most of the times due to obstruction to the bile ducts so that the bile is not mixed with the food and thus the resulting stools are white.
This is potentially dangerous and needs urgent investigations and further management. I would advise you the following:
- Consult your Doctor. - Get the blood tests particularly for liver function tests to see for obstructive jaundice. - Stool tests for bile salts and pigments. - Ultrasonography and MRCP for hepato-biliary system and pancreas.
All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and thus give way for proper management. Stop eating soups, oily foods.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant
