What Causes White Vaginal Discharge?

i have a white vaginal discharge. its heavey and sometimes makes my underwear wet. when i go to the toilet to urinate ill see lots of discharge on the toilet paper, some of it floats in the toile bowl. the discgharge isnt always present, and i dont have any irritation or pain, just a lot of discharge.whats wrong?
