i found worms on my paps diabetic foot..it started yesterday..the ulcer is in the ankle area..it was debrided last december and til now i am treating it hoping for it to heal...but i was alarmed by the worms i found in the ulcers..what am i gonna do to treat it..what does it implies if there are already worms? the size of the ulcer reduces for about 50 % already..the worms started to show after his feet probably was soaked in the water.. area was flooded becoz of the typhoon..thanks very much - leslie joy ariate/philippines
Dear Leslie Joy Welcome to HCM I understand your concern.. The worms which you see in the Foot wound are mostly maggots. Presence of maggots suggests there is slough inside. The ulcer cleaning and dressing was not adequately well. ulcers around joints generally take a longer time to heal but 8 months a bit long time. I think its time you consult a foot surgeon after controlling blood sugars. If your papa is not on insulin please discuss with doc to add insulin to his treatment as it will help in ulcer healing.. For the time being you can use povidone iodine and Edinburg university solution or its equivalent to dress the wounds. Hope my answer helps you! Dr.Riyaz Sheriff
