My sister, age 63, is experiencing bright yellow light about the size of a thumb print in her rt. eye. She has been diagnosed with dry macular degeration. I have concerns that there is a retinal tear as when she closes the eye, it switches to bright white and goes back to bright yellow upon opening. Peripheral vision appears to be distorted, too.
i see that your sister has been diagnosed as dry ARMD. It is a age related degenerative change of her macula. and it is common to experience symptom like you say. I hope the ophthalmologist she consulted has started her on Antioxidant therapy. Also, if there is any loss of blood supply to the macula, it has to be imaged through angiography. and regarding retinal tear which i assume as retinal detachment, its highly unlikely, but provided she experiences, floaters or flashes of light , i would recommend you consult a retina specialist.
