After insufflating the caustic chemical ethylphenidate (pH 9), my septum has yellow marks on it, running all the way up my nasal septum. They seem to be on the same level as the mucosal membrane, and are bumpy. I m not sure whether I ve exposed the cartilige, or if it is just a scar. Could you help me?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of insufflation of caustic chemical Ethylphenidate of pH 9. This being an alkaline chemical causes chemical burns hence the mucosa is showing yellow spots. Whether this is deep to the septal cartilage or not can be known with time or by pin prick test. If there is sensation and bleeding on needle pricking on the yellow spots, you can always know that there is no devitalization and the healing will be complete without any exposure of the septal cartilage. I hope this answers your query.
