What Causes Yellow, dry And Puffy Patches On Scalp?

My elderly friend (86yrs) has yellow, dry & puffy patches on her scalp (one small patch is on right side of her forehead). The effected areas are easy to see because her hair is thin. She does not wash her hair often & uses VO5 regularly. She had no major health problems but take Lisinopril (10mg x 2 daily) and Lasix (12.5mg) daily. These meds control her BP well. Do you have any suggestions/comments until she realizes she may need to see a doctor? Thx!

Yellow dry and puffy patches on the scalp can be due to two main reasons. The first is Seborrheic dermatitis which is also commonly known as dandruff. THis can be treated with topical ketoconazole shampoos. The second possiblity is scalp psoriasis in which case he might need to apply a topical steroid -salicylic acid combination on the scalp to reduce scaling. However it is prudent to consult a dermatologist at the earliest before starting any treatment. Regards.
