What Could Abdominal Pain With Nausea Suggest?

My son has been having symptoms of fair to severe pain in his lower abdomen pain not nausea. The severity of the pain comes on and off. It is not his right side as I thought it may be appendix flaring up. No fever , or loose stoles. He is 34 years of age.

Hi! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

If I were his doctor, I would advise him for an ultrasound abdomen to rule out a stone in the left side of urinary tract (ureter). In case he is chronically constipated, then I would advise him for a colonoscopy to rule out diverticular disease. Till the reports of investigations arrive, I would advise him for an anti spasmodic drug, along with a proton pump inhibitor, and would also dissuade him from consuming alcohol and smoking if he does.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
