What Could Appetite Loss, Vomiting, Breathing Difficulty And Back Pain Indicate?
My mother in law is 83 years old. 4 weeks ago she complained of back pain and visited her doctor. She was given pain relief. Two weeks ago she was admitted to hospital with breathing difficulities but sent home after 24 hours. She then began vomiting. She has eaten or drunk hardly anything for 2 weeks, they have re admitted her twice, put her on a saline drip for 24 hours and sent her home. She is now back in hospital, fading before our eyes, no one seems willing to talk to us, she is still not eating or drinking but vomiting and they have taken her off the drip again. Any suggestions. I am afraid they have told her and she is keeping the truth from us and that is why they are being very vague ...
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Obstructive lesion in stomach require evaluation. 2. At this age, carcinoma stomach possibly with metastasis or carcinoma stomach with regurgitation into lungs leading onto pneumonia needs to be thought of. 3. X-ray of chest along with endoscope guided biopsy can confirm the diagnosis. 4. At this age, with breathing difficulty, surgery is not an option. Palliative care, family support is necessary. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
