What Could Be Causing Consistently High Blood Pressure?
Hi good morning, I am a 35 year old married woman with two daughters. My blood pressure has always been above 150 recently it went up to 197 and it never came down below 160. What would be the reason and which specialty I should approach? I mean general medicine or cardiology? Kindly guide me
Your symptoms could be related to a metabolic disorder or essential arterial hypertension. For this reason, I would recommend discussing with your GP for a physical exam and some tests:
- An abdominal ultrasound in order to examine the adrenal glands and the blood flow in the renal arteries - Complete blood count - Blood electrolytes - Thyroid hormone levels - Cortisol and aldosterone plasma levels.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
