Hello. I m 24, 5 7 130 lbs. No illness in previous medical history. For 2 days now I ve had an ear pain. It is not sharp, but does hurt to the touch and impossible to use a q-tip to clean my ear. The pain is not severe but it s constant and does not go away. With that, I also have jaw pains when I open my mouth, also not severe. I also discovered a very small lump/bump below and behind my ear right behind my jaw line. Some advice on what this could be and methods to use in treating it. I ve tried taking aleve, it relieves the pain/discomfort somewhat, but not completely. Thank you.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Hello from your explanation it looks like an Ear infection causing inflammation inside the ear due to which you are not able to insert q-tip. The lumps seems to be swollen lymph nodes secondary to infection. So my suggestion is to consult an ENT Physician and get checked and an Otoscopic examination of ear should be done. In case if there is infection then you can be advised a course of antibiotics like Augmentin and anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and antibiotic and analgesic ear drops. Also avoid excessive moisture exposure to ears and exposure to very loud sounds. Do not try to put q-tip inside the ear.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
