What Could Be Done To Loosen The Throat To Spit Having Terrible Cold And Cough?

Hi my 3 yr old has a terrible cold and is coughing like crazy but will not spit or blow his nose. Is there anything he can take to loosen it so he can spit it out. Also I have tried to vaporizor and the chest rub but will they do anything prescription wise if he is not running a fever?

Hi
Welcome to healthcaremagic
You son is suffering from rhino pharyngitis. Etiology could be either viral or allergic. For viral symptomatic treatment is needed.for wet cough he needs cough syrup containing mucolytic agent like ambroxol or bromhexine. He need not spit it out.Goal is to remove secretion from lungs. If he swallows then also it is equivalent to spitting. So don't worry. For blocked nose you can put normal saline nose drops
Happy to help you
