What Could Be The Cause For Clear Or Brown Color Mucous Secretions In My Stool?

I have noticed rectal mucous secretions following a bowel movement for awhile, maybe a year or so. I attributed it to aging. I am 66. Recently (in the past month) there has been a change and there are always secretions, clear in color, unless I have recently had a bowel movement, when the secretions are clear with some light brown coloration.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

To me, get a complete blood checkup including:
- complete blood count
- liver/kidney function test
- urine analysis
- stool analysis

First, we should rule out possible liver problems. If nothing organic, then, should have a look at your daily menu for some changes as per stool analysis.

Discuss this further with your caring doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
