What Could Be The Dark Spot On The Kidney Found In Ultrasound?

My daughter had an ultrasound today and the nephrologist found a dark spot on her left kidney. The doctor order a scan to be done right away. Doctor said it can be kidney stones but something tells me that he was somewhat concerned. What else can it be??
