What Could Be The Fluid Mass Under My Left Rib Cage?
Just got back from ultra sound. I have a large lemon size fluid mass under my left rib cage, visible to the eye and tender. I'm a very health 44yr mother of a 3yr old, 25yr old and 23yr old....scared a bit...will they go in right away and remove or ? Help
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your situation and problem. Fluid filled mass under rib cage on ultrasound can be due to 1. Loculated pleural effusion 2. Lung abscess 3. Abscess originating in musculoskeletal system. So better to first get done CT scan of thorax. CT scan will be more informative about the origin of fluid collection. Aspiration is must for the diagnosis of etiology like tubercular, fungal, bacterial or malignant. Sometimes, excision of this collection is also required. So better to first get done CT thorax to decide future treatment plan. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
