i am 44 yrs old and recently develop a fluttering sensation in my chest, every time the fluttering starts, my heart stop beating for a second or so, i know this as i use a stetoscope to listen to my heart beats, the fluttering occurs every 3-5 minutes.
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. Fluttering feeling in chest is mostly due to tachycardia ( rapid heart rate). And following are the possible causes for this. 1. Stress, tension, anxiety. 2. Cardiac arrhythmia 3. Anemia 4. Hyperthyroidism So better to get done ecg, 2d echo and holter monitoring ( 24 hour continuous recording of ECG ) to rule out arrhythmia. If all are normal then no need to worry for cardiac cause. Get done hemoglobin level and thyroid function test to rule out anemia and hyperthyroidism respectively. If all are normal then you are having mostly anxiety related symptoms. So better to avoid stress and tension. Be relax and calm. You may need anxiolytic drugs too. So consult psychiatrist and discuss all these. Don't worry, you will be alright.
