Hi, total thyroidectomy is usually done for thyroid cancer. The histopathological report of the speciamen taken out is important as well as the preoperative ultrasound of the neck. Lymphnodes in the submandibular region are usually not involved in cancer of the thyroid as usually level II-IV and central compartment clearance is usually done in case it is required. Rest of the levels are not usually required to be removed. You need to see the operating surgeon and not the endocrinologist as the lymphnodes have certain character on ultrasound which point to the involvement in malignancy and if it is so, an FNAC is indicated.
