What Could Be The Reason For Having Itching And Discomfort On My Back?
10 days back a sebaceous cyst was removed from my upper right back, it was stitched by surgeon now after ten days the area is still itching and causing discomfort the stiches would be removed after couple of days as per doctor, what could be the reason? I have taken antibiotics for seven days and pain killers for three daysd.........Dilip
There can be few reasons for itching caused after a surgery: 1. You have developed an allergic reaction towards suture material 2. you have developed an allergic reaction towards medicine that you are applying over the wounded area or for cleaning this area 3. sometimes, because of normal healing process, in a few individuals, itching may become severe.
As per guidelines, a non absorbable suture should be removed within 5 to 10 days. for back, 7 to 10 days is the optimum time period to remove it. More than 10 days will not benefit more.
I would advise you to get it removed after consultation with your doctor. Also apply a combination of mild steroid-antibiotic (fluticasone, mometasone with mupirocin, fucidic acid) to decrease itching.
wishing you a speedy recovery
