What Could Be The Reason For Having Pain Down The Back Of Both Legs Even After A Spine Fusion?
I had spine fusion L4&L5 on August 5th and I still am having trouble with pain down the back of both legs. I have had these symptoms since I injured my back in May of 2012. It's not a sharp pain, but a nagging pain like when you have the flu and your muscles ache. I really haven't felt any better since having the surgery. Is this normal? Will that ever go away?
A certain degree of radicular pain (root pain in legs) is felt normally for a few weeks after spinal surgery (owing to the manipulation of the nerve roots during the surgical procedure). But, it should not continue for months together. So, I personally feel that your symptoms are definitely abnormal and needs evaluation.
A Nerve conduction study of your lower limbs is needed to locate the level of any possible lesion producing the symptoms.
I suggest you to consult a Neurophysician for a clinical evaluation and further management.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
